Jared, I was thinking the exact same thing. Although it is obviously a long shot. I think we would be a great fit for vesey. Top 6 role, powerplay time. The core around his age. Playoff contenders (he could push is over the edge). Northeast and arguably one of the best dmen in the league. Dorian should at least be making a max offer, somewhere in the neighborhood of what Laine got. And for f sakes sign Hoffman already

He would be a good addition and I can see him on the 2nd line. But really, if we get him, I just want to make sure he's put in a position to succeed.

I think this years Bingo team will be much better than last year and that will be a good thing for O'Connor and Dreider... Hopefully the other prospects down there can benefit from being in a winning environment.

I would like to see the Sens go after Vesey, and I'm sure they have reached out, but the lack of mention of their name indicates to me that they aren't in contention. A team with space and young core not even mentioned...probably for a reason.

The Sens tend to do their college shopping at Boston College / Boston University ( O'Connor, and White for example ), and I wonder if there is some sort of rivalry?

I think there isn't the interest from the player side.

I'm still a firm believer that Hoffman will resign. While Hoffman, MacArthur, Smith, Paul/Dzingel/Puemple isn't the strongest left side, it is far from the weakest.

As for prospects, guys like Perron, Chlapik, and Filip Ahl mean there is a good chance of someone stepping up.

It's not perfect. Things aren't exactly sparkling. But there are more pressing areas of concern for me.

It would be nice to add more to the pool if there is a chance. I just think, if there was a chance, someone would have mentioned it by now.

Maybe he thinks about it until his agent shows him Melnyk's history of being the biggest idiot owner in sports

Can I just say one thing - since Shane Doan is resigning in Arizona - what a HORRIBLE organization. The first 8 drafts were absolute crap that produced nothing (except Briere but he was gone for nothing).... then you go every year with a high pick or star leaving - Wheeler, Yandle (at least brought Douclair), Turris, Boedker, Gormley. In fact, take out the last 3 years, what the heck do you have? Ekman-Larsson, Hanzel...M. Stone....murphy? It's honestly all garbage. Atleast there's another wave now - Duclair, Domi, Strome, Perlini, Merkley, Chychrun, Keller.

Anyway - these guys don't get me too excited. Just like Justin Schutlz, Fabain Brunnstrom, and recently Matt O'Connor - sometimes it's overblown.

I want to see Hoffman signed before 3 weeks - 7 years @5.72M. Otherwise, I would move Hoffman for Jeff Skinner in a package.

Im not sure where he's going to go, would be great if he came to our team!
Honestly though I think the rules should be modified so that the team that drafts these players are more able to sign them...

To me Vesey is coming off as ungrateful and a little spoiled.
Also was a bit of a sneaky move by MLS to give his Dad a job but if it works I have to tip my hat to them.
Maybe we can go after one of the other finalists from this year?http://www.hobeybaker.com...morial-award/past-winners

i'd love to snag him but I can't see it happening.

buffalo makes the most sense, they're stacked with young guys, need a LW, and are pretty close to taking that next step as a team IMO.

the leafs are still years away, and the bruins are heading in the wrong direction.

that being said, i'll bet he signs in Tor or Bos....

If Vesey is truly going to weigh all his options his best course of action would be joining the cup champions. Playing on the same line as Crosby or Malkin and having a real chance to win a cup in his first season as well as being part of that power play should be very enticing. I think playing with the best player in the world and for the best owner in the NHL should be the top of his list. He would have a real chance of being a 70-80 point player which would earn him a bigger pay day when his ELC is up.

Victor Rask just signed in Carolina for $4M per year. A guy who has a single year goal high of 21, and has never hit the 50 point mark yet. I realize as a C he gets paid more, but Hoffman, who has gotten 2 25+ goal seasons and was ever so close to a 30 goal 60 point year last year.

It's hard to make comparables of every young contract signed, but I gotta think $5+M is reasonable.

It's a 3 team race at the moment.

Boston, Buffalo, and Toronto.

Then there are Cup contenders that could make their interest in him known in August. Teams like Chicago and Pittsburgh come to mind.

Then the bigger cash spending teams like the Rangers and maybe even Philly.

Why would he sign in Ottawa with an owner so inept he makes Mike Milbury look like a respectable GM?

He is probably looking for a few things out of an organization:

An owner with deep pockets
A winning team or a team closer to winning
A team with the cap space in couple of years that can pay him his next contract
A team with good enough talent around him to help him pad his stats to get the biggest contract he can in 2 years

Ottawa only has one of those things but an owner that won't spend money.

He would fit there on paper but not on principle

Sure Ottawa needs a LWer, but I see him going back to Nashville before signing in Ottawa.

Since when do the words "senators" and "swoop in" ever go together? Don't know why their owner is so cheap, surely they have more money than teams like the Panthers who went on a spending spree.

Yeah they sucked at picking/developing but the next wave is huge. and deeper than the super high-end guys listed. Fischer & Dvorak are going to play key roles with leadership and ryan macinnis is well rounded. They have a good mix up front and will be moving some of these guys for D I would imagine in the next couple of years. I still think Merkley is a "bust". Garland could be good.

LOL. There arent many reasons, if any, to go to Boston. His own Dad, an ex-Bruin, advised him against it. Boston has 1, maybe 2, decent years yet and then they are perennial basement dwellers.

When was the last time one of these college hold-out players actually worked out for the team that got him? somebody mentioned Schultz and O'Connor, which makes me agree that it's nothing to get too excited about...

he'll probably top out as an okay 2nd liner...15 goal 40 pt kind of guy. I would say his ceiling is probably a bozak type player.

the most alluring thing about Vesey is that he's a free asset, but he will unlikely be an impact NHL player........he might, but it's unlikely.

O'Connor wasn't a hold out. He wasn't drafted. He was a late bloomer who was simply a free agent. He won't be ready for anything like the NHL for a couple more years.

You're delusional after giving up a 3rd round pick for nothing. Sure he felt comfortable and is pals with Eichel but that doesn't mean jack. He's not going to Buffalo. Ottawa has everything you mentioned minus a spend easy owner. I'm not saying they're a front runner but I wouldn't rule it out

No, you guys are crazy. He will never sign in Ottawa. Get it out of your heads. Not even the smallest chance. Boston, Toronto, or Buffalo is the most likely. Chicago is in the mix as well. Ottawa is last on his list. Stop it already
